MATATIELE DISABILITY FORUM ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Matatiele Local Municipality today and Disability Forum Elective Meeting at the Maggie Resha Conference Room 1&2.

The purpose of the meeting was to elect a new executive structure for the Disability Forum, following the expiry of the previous structure elected on 09 September 2022, which served for three years.

The new structure, which will serve for a three-year term, was elected by persons with disabilities, nominating from amongst themselves. The positions filled include the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer and additional Members.

The Disability Forum exists to champion the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities and to ensure equal access to government services, employment and economic opportunities.

Key mandates of the Forum include:
1. Advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities
2. Promoting accessibility and inclusion in public services
3. Forming partnerships with government departments including SAPS, Department of Health, the business sector and the taxi industry
4. Creating networking and empowerment opportunities
5. Mobilizing resources and leading fundraising initiatives for disability programmes

The Municipality congratulates the newly elected leadership and reaffirms its commitment to building an inclusive Matatiele where no one is left behind.
