Matatiele Local Municipality hosts Communication Action Plan Review
Today, The Matatiele Local Municipality Review Its Communication Action Plan at Maggie Tsiu-Resha Building today, with Prof. Somadoda Fikeni as special guest.
The workshop brought together key municipal stakeholders including Ward Councillors, Ward Committees, CDWs and municipal officials to reflect on current communication initiatives, assess progress, identify gaps, and strengthen strategies that keep residents informed and involved.
Discussions covered critical touchpoints for residents turnaround times for service delivery queries, effectiveness of ward based communication, use of digital platforms like WhatsApp groups and the municipal website, and accessibility of information for elderly and rural communities. Participants also reviewed feedback from recent public participation on our social networks.
Effective communication is the bridge between the municipality and the people we serve. Today’s session focused on sharpening how we share information ensuring every voice in Matatiele is heard, from ward meetings to water outage notices and infrastructure project updates.
In his address, Prof. Somadoda Fikeni emphasized that government must prioritize its people and serve them with dignity not forgetting segmentation and priorities. He called for intentional, consistent efforts to strengthen communication, stating “We are not favoured because we are the best or because we are geniuses. We must not squander any opportunity to serve.”
Recommendations from today’s workshop will be consolidated into a revised Communication Action Plan to be tabled before Council for approval. The plan aims to improve responsiveness, language accessibility, and two way engagement across all 26 wards of Matatiele.
This engagement forms part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and meaningful public participation in line with “UBUNTU”.
