MALUTI DISTRICT CONTINUES TO SHINE

Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality Cllr Momelezi Mbedla joined the Minister of Education Ms Angie Motshekga, Eastern Cape MEC for Education Mr Mandla Makupula & ANDM Executive Mayor Cllr Mehlomakulu to honour and award the class of 2016 NSC Matric in the Alfred Nzo District.

At the ceremony held on the 07th of February at Umzimvubu Town Hall KwaBhaca, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality awarded the 2016 NSC matrics for flying the ANDM flag high.

The learners were awarded laptops, tablets, certificates, smart phones and vouchers ranging between R5 000 to R20 000. The main aim of the ceremony is to congratulate district learners for representing the District well through their outstanding performance. This is also a platform to inspire them to aim high and reach greater heights as they transition to institutions of higher learning.

Once more His Worship the Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality made a clarion call to all education stakeholders to focus on strengthening quality education from Grade R and the Foundation Phase as a whole.

“The education our children receive from our schools must allow communities to benefit positively from it. That will in turn shape their personalities, and ensure they become responsible citizens in life,” said Cllr Mbedla. His worship added that, whatever path one takes, it is important to stay true to oneself. He emphasises the need for hard work and sheer determination to unlock the doors of success.

The MLM Mayor called on the Department of Education and Minister Motshekga to organise Education Summit to address all challenges facing education system in the district.

Among the award recipients were Anelisa Marwanqana from Mariazell High School who received three awards in the categories of the overall individual per Local Municipality,best performed student in Physical Science and the Top Performing Leaner in the Alfred Nzo District.  St’Monicas High School was position 3 as the best performing school in the District. Nyaniso SSS was awarded the best performing school from Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDI).

King Edward High School was the overall winner by scooping nine awards in the following categories: best performed student in Physical Science and Accounting; best performed school in Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting; top teachers in Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting and position one in the district as the best performing school. Maluti District received special accolades as the best performing district in the Alfred Nzo region.

Minister Motshekga challenged Maluti District to ensure that they find strategies to get back to the top 5 in the Province.

“I am not going to congratulate the Maluti District, because 4 years ago you were in the top 5 but today they are dwindling. Nationally your league as we speak is amongst the top 5 and that is where you belong,” she said.
