Mayor Mbedla tables budget speech
The Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality Cllr Momelezi Mbedla tabled his third municipal budget speech and State of the Municipality Address on Friday the 30th of May 2019 in Mpharane.
This address will be delivered under the theme: “Let us grow Matatiele together and speed up service delivery.”
He addressed the milestones the administration has achieved in the past financial years saying that the lives of the people of Matatiele are better than before, “our people have shelters, we have reduced the electricity backlog to less than 30% and great strides have been made in ensuring that Matatiele residents have access to clean water as Matatiele currently has 71.1% water access.”
“Our children are receiving free basic education; we are making a great improvements in ensuring that our town is clean and some of the access roads were completed in the last financial and are in good state, “said Cllr Mbedla.
Highlighting some of the successes in Matatiele: The Department of Human Settlements is currently constructing houses in the following Wards: Queens Mercy (300) in ward 12, Thaba-Chicha MPCC in ward 14, Sibi 16 in ward 4, Mvenyane 500 in ward 21, Masakala 550 in ward 3, Mdeni 30 and Thaba Chicha 500 in ward 14, Maritseng 1500 & Mehloloaneng 898 in ward 16.
The Department of Rural Development & Agrarian Reform will spend R2 million for fencing projects in eHanover, Glenleary, eBethel including steel cattle handling facility in Matelleng. R8 million to be spent in Ward 6, 8, 10, 14, 16 & 26 in farming 2500 hectors.
About 284 young people are enrolled on internship, learnership & in-service training offered by the municipality.
On Education the department will undertake major construction in the following schools: Makhoba, Upper Mkhemane, Kennersly, Magadla & Luphindo.
The Department of Social Development and Special Programmes is supporting more than 75 projects with an amount estimated at more than R12 million.
