Matatiele Youth Parliament held
On the 27th of June 2019, Matatiele local municipality through the office of the Speaker gathered young people for information sharing. The aim of the Youth Parliament was to provide a platform for young people to share ideas, learn and raise their frustrations on the development and empowerment of young people. “As Matatiele LM, we believe education and skills development are essential for the youth to help drive the economy since they are the majority of Matatiele population, “expressed the Speaker of Matatiele Local Municipality, Cllr Nomasomi Mshuqwana.
Issues deliberated on included; strategies applicable to address crime and substance abuse, creation of job opportunities and economic development.
Mr Ndima Mtoto from ward 20 was elected the mayor of the session while Miss Fundiswa Kondile from ward 7 was the speaker. “We are grateful to the municipality for creating this platform for young people, and hoping that our deliberations will bring change to young people of Matatiele,” said Mtoto. The recommendations of the session will be forwarded to the Special Programmes unit for advocacy.
